All other land was obtained by purchase; however, the Bickley Trust bought the All England Ground for £3,000 and immediately made it over to the Town Estate.
The name derives from a famous cricket match in 1855, held over three days in July, between 11 All England players and 22 from Melton. This was evidently a huge event and very well attended. The All England Team scored 174 runs, Melton only mustered 82 and 72. The event was repeated two years later with a similar result but in 1872 the 22 of Melton were boosted with the incorporation of W G Grace, his brother J F and J Lillywhite. Not surprisingly the Melton team won by 92 runs.
Rugby, football and cricket clubs use the ground and have their own pavilion.
