AWARDS EVENING

2008

Melton Mowbray Cricket Clubs Awards Night 2008 took place last Friday at the All England Sports Ground on Saxby Road where 60 guests and Club Members attended.
Chairman Malcolm Brown presented the Awards for the evening and spoke of the hard work from the supporting roles of the Club members, especially since taking control of the Clubhouse and Grounds in early 2008.
Special mentions went to Caroline Barradell who made the Cricket teas every week, Barry Hood for his work behind the scenes and behind the bar, to Greg Richardson for great work on the ground, to local residents Fred and Cyril who helped to maintain the Clubhouse and Grounds, to Rupert Smallshaw, Owen Lloyd, Paul Hill, Barrie Cousins, Paul Stevenson, Darren Elliot, Bob Hendy and John Redwood who all ensured the bar was stocked and the Clubhouse clean for every event.
The Chairman continued with descriptions of the highs and lows of the season for the three Melton sides. Meltons first XI finishing off the season with a full 24 points to maintain their Division 5 status, the second XI suffering at the bottom of Division 7 but with a good team spirit and prospects for the future and Meltons Burrough League Evening Cricket side who gained promotion to the second Divison with Captain Rupert Smallshaw.
The Chairman went onto present the Awards:
MMCC 1st XI
Best Batsman - Bob Hendy with a batting average of 53.1
Best Bowling  - Ben Redwood with a bowling average of 18.35
 
MMCC 2nd XI
Best Batsman - Marcus Hurrell
Best Bowling  - Lee Jones
 
Clubs Best Performance
Ben Redwood -  11 overs, 5 maidens & 6 wickets for 19 runs and 29 batting runs against Newtown Linford.
 
Clubman of the Year
Clubman of the Year was voted during the evening and won for the 5th time in 6 season by Rupert Smallshaw.
 
The Chairman finished off proceedings by talking about Melton Mowbray Cricket Clubs future and was pleased to announce bookings for 3 club members to take coaching courses and interest from outside the club in offering coaching to Club members and juniors who want to join starting with practice sessions this summer and a new team for the 2010 season. Malcom also announced that MMCC have joined the Grantham and Melton League aswell extending the games played at the All England Ground next season.
The evening finished with local band TARNISHED playing the guests through the
night.
